Sacred Mount Genie Trek
A trek to the Sacred Mount Genie in eastern Tibet
Overview
There is a beautiful and sacred mountain named Genie in the Kham Area, of Eastern Tibet. Mt. Genie is the highest peak of the Shaluli Mountain Chain at 6204metres. East of it, moraines and glacier lakes come into view. Many Buddhist monks withdrew from society and practiced Buddhism there and is still sparsely populated. Early in 1169, the first ruler Gemaba Dusong Qinba built Lenggu Monastery. The handwriting of the first ruler Gemaba Dusong Qinba is kept on the rock behind the monasteries. The temple houses the "horn" used by him and "heart-stone" of Mt. Genie and other rare treasures. The frescos on the walls of the temple depict the tales about every peak of Mt. Genie. At Kaimaijiang, there are still monks practicing Buddhism.
The peaks around Mt. Genie are fantastic shapes. Every peak has countless waterfalls, virgin forest and grassland with plenty of water and lush grass. Lenggu Waterfall is particularly beautiful, and the green lawns are like carpets. Xiaozha Waterfall with a drop of 500m is awesome. There are numerous hot springs in the forests. As the forests here are protected everything is green and luxuriant, with many kinds of wild animals and plants. Everywhere is filled with life and vitality.
The beauty of Mt. Genie is truly spectacular; there are no roads in this area so you can only enter it by trekking or by horse.
Litang has the title of “Worlds Highest City”, with an altitude of 4014m, 385km east from Kangding, is the capital of Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. The streets in the town are wide and clean, vast grassland surrounding the town. In summer and autumn, the grass is lush and flowers bloom, with many brooks running through the grassland. Litang Monastery, in the north of the town, is known as “Holy land of Yellow sect of Buddhism in South Kangding Area”.
