Spectacular high altitude trek via Phoksumdo Lake
Overview
This is a sustained and difficult high altitude trek starting at Dunai the gateway to Dolpo. The trek takes us over many high passes with spectacular views, into the Shey Phoksumdo National Park. Spend the night by the crystal clear waters of Phoksumdo Lake and see the highest waterfall in Nepal.

Itinerary
Day 1.
Arrive in Kathmandu. You will arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport as per your flight schedule. One of our airport representatives will receive you and transfer you to your hotel where you will receive a briefing on immediate arrangements
Day 2.
Kathmandu. A full day sightseeing journey will enable you to explore not-to-miss UNESCO enlisted Cultural and Historical World Heritage Sites (Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur Durbar Squares, Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath and Boudhanath)
Day 3.
Kathmandu. Trek briefing and preparation: - No matter how experienced a trekker, hiker or mountaineer you are you will always find it worthwhile to attend the briefing session to gain some pre-departure information on preferred areas, trail conditions, physical demands, tips and safety precautions, challenges that may occur during the trek, and local cultures, customs and taboos
Day 4.
Fly to Nepalganj. Transfer to the hotel
Day 5.
Fly to Juphal Airport (Jumla) (2475m). Commence trek to Dunai. (2140m)
A wonder flight with fine views right across the Himalaya; this is a gentle start to the trek with the trail mainly going down hill. It follows almost to a ‘valley cross road’ our trail goes straight on to Dunai (3-4 hours)
Day 6.
Dunai to Shyanta (2520m)
The trail now doubles back on itself on the opposite side of the river to the approach to Dunai that was taken yesterday. Once back at the ‘cross-road the valley to the north is taken and is easily followed to Shyanta
Day 7.
Trek to Rechi (2940m)
Passing though Chhepka the trail continues to head north up the valley crossing the river twice before Rechi (4-5 hours)
Day 8.
Rechi to Phoksundo (3733m)
Phoksundo is situated on the outlet of the Phoksundo Lake. The small community has a surprising number of facilities (5-6 hours)
Day 9.
Exploration and rest day at Phoksundo Lake (3733m)
A wonderful place to have a rest day, relax and enjoy
Day 10.
Trek along the west side of Lake to Point (3756m)
The trail initially follows the lake shore north before climbing a little and then descending back to the shore. It then follows the broad valley of the Phoksundo Khola (4-5 hours)
Day 11.
Phoksundo to Mandala (4570m)
The trail now starts it’s steep climb towards the Nangdalo Pass. Today’s trek is short but feels longer due to the altitude gain (3-4 hours)
Day 12.
Mandala to Shey Gompa (4160m) via the Nangdalo Pass (5110m)
Continue the steep climb to the summit of the pass before the long gentle descent to Shey Gompa (4-5 hours)
Day 13.
Shey Gompa to Namgung (4380m) via the Saldang Pass (5010m).
Today’s trail is all above 4000 metres and the views are magnificent (5-6 hours)
Day 14.
Namgung to Rapa Gompa, Chagaon (3890m).
Follow the Nangma Khola before turning south into the main valley and heading for Sugugaon and then Chagaon (4-5 hours)
Day 15.
Chagaon to the Lake Camp Site (4020m)
The trail climbs slowly to the summit of the Khoma Pass at 4460 metres before descending to the Lake Camp Site. An idyllic place to spend time after the hard day’s trek (4-5 hours)
Day 16.
Lake Camp Site to Shimen Gaon (3850m) via Shimen Pass (4260m)
A short day but that does not mean that it is without interest, keep your camera to hand! (3-4 hours)
Day 17.
Shimen Gaon to Tinjegaon (4150m)
The trail now heading south follows the Panjyan Khola past some caves and waterfalls all the way to Tinjegaon (3-4 hours)
Day 18.
Tinjegaon to Camp Site (4210m)
From Tinjegaon follow the Panjyan Khola [right hand branch] slowly climbing to the campsite at 4210 metres (3-4 hours)
Day 19.
Trek to Charka Bhot (4110m) via the Mola Bhanjyang Pass (5027m)
A long and interesting day climbing slowly to the summit of the pass before descending 900 metres to Charka Bhot (6-7 hours)
Day 20.
Charka Bhot via the Niwal Pass (5120m) to Sangdok (4790m)
Follow the river south climbing all the way, cross the bridge at Sipte and then the right hand valley again climbing steadily to the remote Niwal Pass . Now the trail descends to Sangdok (6-7 hours)
Day 21.
Sangdok to Santo (3700m)
After several long and hard days trekking today will come as a relief and the atmosphere richer in oxygen as you follow the trail to Santo 3700 metres 2-3 hours
Day 22.
Santo to Kagbeni (2800m).
Today the trail finds its way around several ridges eventually descending to Kagbeni beside the Kali Gandaki Khola (3-4 hours)
Day 23.
Kagbeni to Muktinath (3550m)
Muktinath is the second most important Hindu sight to Pashupatinath
Day 24.
Muktinath to Elko Bhati (2800m)
First you will have time to explore Muktinath before the final leg of the trek takes you back into Jomsom via Elko Bhati (2-3 hours)
Day 25.
Jomsom (2710m)
Trek to Jomsom with time to explore the various Gompas in and around Jomsom (2 hours)
Day 26.
Fly to Pokhara, (820m)
Book into your hotel and then explore and stroll around Pokhara
Day 27.
Kathmandu. Leisurely day sightseeing and doing the last minute shopping before the farewell dinner
Day 28.
Trip concludes. We will escort you to the airport for your onward journey
